Technical Architecture Design for National Government Revenue Department

The Challenge

The National Government Revenue department had recognised a growing need to communicate more efficiently between tax bureaux and the general public. It identified that electronic access by the public through to agency systems would be beneficial, but realised this would necessitate a re-examination of the current methods of managing and controlling taxation and other public finance initiatives.

The concept for the new approach involved complex scalability, availability and usage requirements based on a three tier directory infrastructure. The nature of the solution indicated that the design and architecture of the system would require input from specialists in subjects including communications and security. The customer selected a local Systems Integrator (SI) as prime contractor, who, in turn, looked to Nexor to assist in identifying a solution.

The Nexor Solution

Nexor and the SI identified the following areas in which Nexor skills and resources could make a valuable contribution to the project:

  • X.500 multi-mastering design
  • META directory integration
  • Secure operations of both LDAP and X.500 bind processes
  • Single sign-on
  • Identity and privilege management
  • Test, acceptance and accreditation in line with risk management and risk assessment best practices.

During the course of the design, integration and implementation phases of the project, Nexor staff were available either on-site or remotely to provide advice and guidance as well as hands-on technical involvement.

Now the system is installed and running, Nexor continues to provide support and maintenance as per contracted Service Level Agreements.

The Result

The SI and the customer appreciated Nexor’s experience and expertise as subject matter experts including the ability to work seamlessly as part of a complex, multi-party team. The project was subject to strict time and budget deadlines, which Nexor was able to contribute to meeting through its comprehensive project management framework and by providing a flexible and responsive service.
